Audiology at CCI

Cancer Treatment & Hearing

Hearing & balance can be negatively affected by surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  Types of issues include permanent sensorineural hearing loss, fluid in the middle ear, tinnitus and balance disturbances.

CCI Recommendation

We strongly recommend a full diagnostic hearing assessment prior to commencing cancer treatment.  Having a baseline provides important medical information for the treating team.  By regular monitoring throughout treatment, your specialist will be informed about whether a dose reduction or change of drug might be needed.

Gina has been working as a Specialist Clinical Audiologist for over twenty years.  During this time she has looked after both adult and paediatric patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs.  She has extensive counselling experience. She is also very well qualified in cancer sciences and the impact of cancer treatments on the body.  

As part of your consultation at CCI, a GP or specialist referral will attract a bulk billed diagnostic hearing assessment for cancer patients undergoing active treatment.
