OFFERING EVENING PHONE CONSULTS MONDAY - FRIDAY

The SEQ Comprehensive Cancer Initiative is a boutique cancer education organisation dedicated to improving health literacy, supporting informed healthcare decisions, and promoting collaborative, person-centred care. Through evidence-informed education, we help individuals and families better understand cancer, its biology, treatment options and the healthcare system, enabling greater confidence when engaging with their healthcare team.
We help people prepare for specialist appointments, understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and make the most of every consultation. By strengthening health literacy and communication between patients and healthcare professionals, we support meaningful participation in shared decision-making and help people navigate the complexities of cancer care with greater confidence.
We also recognise that therapeutic headwear can play an important role in maintaining comfort, confidence and dignity throughout cancer treatment. By improving awareness of, and access to, quality therapeutic headwear, we aim to support wellbeing and enhance quality of life.
As a boutique cancer education organisation, we pride ourselves on personalised, patient-centred care.
Gina Ball
With postgraduate qualifications in Cancer Sciences, Education and Clinical Audiology, Gina is well placed to provide evidence-informed education and guidance, helping people understand their diagnosis, navigate the healthcare system and make informed decisions about their care. Following her own cancer diagnosis, Gina completed advanced postgraduate studies in Cancer Sciences, where she undertook rigorous scholarly training and developed an in-depth understanding of cancer biology, diagnostics, treatment modalities, supportive care and the evidence underpinning contemporary oncology. Passionate about improving access to high-quality, equitable cancer care for people living outside major centres, she is committed to strengthening person-centred support across rural and regional Queensland, helping individuals and families navigate the healthcare system and make informed decisions in partnership with their healthcare team.
A commitment to lifelong learning underpins Gina's professional practice.
She continues to expand her knowledge across the full spectrum of cancer care, ensuring her education and guidance remain grounded in contemporary evidence. Her particular interests include early-stage breast cancer, sarcoma, head and neck cancer, kidney cancer, communication in cancer care, and therapeutic headwear to support comfort, confidence and dignity throughout treatment.
Alongside her postgraduate scholarship in Cancer Sciences, Gina brings the unique perspective of lived experience as a cancer patient, providing valuable insight into the physical, emotional and practical realities of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. With more than twenty years of clinical practice as an audiologist, she remains committed to lifelong learning and multidisciplinary collaboration through active membership of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, the Australasian Society for Breast Disease, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, the Australian and New Zealand Sarcoma Association, the International Cardio-Oncology Society, Audiology Australia, and the Australasian Menopause Society.

Cancer affects the whole circle of care. Partners, carers, children and families often experience significant emotional, practical and communication challenges alongside the person diagnosed. We recognise carers as essential partners in care and provide dedicated education, counselling and support for the entire circle of care.
Our approach recognises that cancer care is a partnership between the individual, their support network and the healthcare team, supporting person-centred care and strengthening the whole circle of care. Through evidence-informed education, we help patients and carers understand their diagnosis and treatment options, ask informed questions, and participate confidently in healthcare decisions.
Mission statement
Navigating the complexities of cancer care requires a strong foundation of knowledge and support. Patient empowerment is at the heart of our mission, fostering informed choices that lead to better health outcomes.
Gina completed her postgraduate studies through the VCCC Alliance, a collaboration of leading Australian cancer research, clinical and academic institutions. This unique learning environment provided exposure to internationally recognised expertise across cancer prevention, diagnostics, therapeutics, supportive care and translational research, reinforcing her commitment to evidence-informed, person-centred cancer care.
We are the first consumer-led cancer organisation in the region, uniquely combining rigorous academic scholarship, allied health expertise and lived experience to deliver independent, evidence-informed cancer education and support. We support people affected by cancer irrespective of where they receive their treatment - in the public or private health system - ensuring individuals and families have access to trusted education and guidance throughout their cancer experience.
Our niche is providing evidence-informed cancer education and guidance that helps patients, carers, children and families better understand their diagnosis, treatment and supportive care. Underpinned by scholarly training in Cancer Sciences, extensive allied health experience and lived experience of cancer, our approach promotes health literacy, collaborative care and informed decision-making throughout the cancer care continuum.
Through evidence-informed education, we empower people affected by cancer to make informed healthcare decisions and actively participate in their care.
