Informed Decisions in Early Breast Cancer

treatments for early breast cancer are complex

Surgery/Chemotherapy/ Radiotherapy

A challenging aspect of an early breast cancer diagnosis, is being overwhelmed with many invasive, highly toxic treatment recommendations, which may change unexpectedly depending on subsequent pathology reports and expert medical opinions.  No cancer behaves the same way in any one individual and this means patients must often see multiple specialists with very limited time to discuss, ask questions and fully understand the short and long term consequences of treatments - not only on 'curing the cancer' but equally important, on daily functioning and quality of life into survivorship.

Endocrine Treatment

The majority of early breast cancers are fuelled by hormones and these women are recommended endocrine therapy.  Drugs prescribed will depend on menopausal state and other individual factors. Research into the effects of these treatments is of key interest to us. Keep an eye on our research page for updates and the possibility to be actively involved.

Fear of Recurrence / Surveillance

This aspect of a cancer diagnosis is not openly talked about but places a heavy psychological burden on all cancer patients.
